Last night I attended the 2015 American Red Cross Rescue Gala. The Five Civilized Tribes were being recognized as those who have built a legacy of making their corner of the world a better place for all. The Chiefs of the Five Civilized Tribes established the Indian Territory Branch of the Red Cross in 1906. That foresight laid the groundwork for a system of delivering help to Oklahomans in need that still thrives today. I was so honored to be asked to help accept the Oklahoma Spirit Award for the Cherokee Nation and to be standing on-stage among such a dignified group of individuals.
