My name is Cherokee Dawn Pearce. I am originally from Claremore, Oklahoma and lived on a small farm where I enjoyed the simple things that country life brings. I spent my early youth caring for and raising farm animals where I learned the key principals of responsibility. I moved to Owasso, Oklahoma at fourteen years old and got involved in various clubs including FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America), Native American Student Association, Spirit Crew, and Student Council. It was at that time I began a journey in helping others and giving back to my community. I am currently a freshman in college and plan to study medical/molecular biology which will allow me to obtain a doctorate degree in dermatology.
I started my journey to becoming Miss Oklahoma Teen USA when I was just fourteen years old. Many times I have been asked "Why do you keep trying?" I say, why not! Although pageantry does not define who I am, it has brought me many opportunities I would not have had otherwise. I have created friendships across our nation that I will cherish forever. I am so blessed and honored to be a part of such an incredible organization.
I have wrote and published a children's book called Meanie Muffins. My inspiration for writing a children's book came from feeling different than my peers and as a result, was often teased for being unique. Although at times my spirit felt damaged, I found a creative outlet through pageantry that helped me overcome my feelings of inadequacy. I vowed to find a way to educate our youth on being kind and courteous to their peers. I believe that educating youth early in life and being a good role model is the key to making a difference in bullying behavior.
I will represent Oklahoma in the Bahamas to compete for the title of Miss Teen USA 2015 on August 22nd.
